The gaps are created using the settings (like tabs). So you need to open the settings for lists and adjust them. Scale strokes and effects has nothing to do with it. It's in the Paragraph panel.

Everyone uses layers in Illustrator. It's not possible to work without them. You can try and turn off "Save in background" in the preferences, then save again. BTW: this ios a user forum. 96% of people posting here are volunteers. If all you want to do is rant, go ahead, but maybe mark your post as a rant, so nobody wastes their time trying to help.

The outdated driver could be causing your issue. THat was one of the earliest things being discovered around the update.

What kind of project are we talking about? A curriculum? What does that consist of? text? graphics? Generally there are no good solutions for your task. You have no idea which new application you want to use? If it is a text based publication, InDesign would probably be the better choice. But depending what kind of publication it is, switching would most probably mean rebuilding the whole thing from scratch. You can open and then edit PDFs in some layout apps, but the kind of file you get is less than desirable.

The triangle means your swatch is global. Having swatches not globals does not make a lot of sense in a lot of cases. So that is not the best idea. Probably you could just click on the red-green-blue striped button and then copy the HEX?

Are you using the scroll wheel for zooming? If so it could be the mouse or the driver or whatever. It has been reported by a couple of people. I don't know if there's been a solution to it already. Maybe you can post which mouse and driver you are using?

Easiest would be to share a demo file that contains the brush and the shape you have drawn with it. Save that as an AI file, then change the file extension to .PDF and you can upload it in this forum. But since you have a calligraphic brush: check if you have applied a fill to your path.

THe problem with that approach is: when drawing the initial shape you do not know the exact angle of the sides. But clearly the angles of all those sides need to match.

You can check all the running processes in the Activity app. And then see if there is anything suspective in there. Also compare that to the processes in Safe Mode. Find the diferences. I never had to do that. I'm running a pretty basic system. Browsers without plugins.
