That is something that probably no one can or will tell you publicly. You can turn off automatic updates of Illustrator and then figure out what you need to change in your workflow in order to make the current SVG version work for you.

Image trace can also trace strokes. Most of the time the results are crap, but with these kind of artworks there is a slight chance that it could somewhat work. You have a lot of several lines that meet in the same point and that is regularly what breaks everything in this kind of task. You probably wondered why you got only one answer: you won't get more. There is no solution to your problem.

No. Not after cleaning up. When drawing in a clean way, you do not want to fight a magnetism. That makes no sense. If you can move a mouse or graphic stylus around, you can also learn to draw with the pen tool. It's just practice.

You need to draw a lot of connections. And then I think I would approach this with the shapebuilder tool. You will also need to copy the letters because you need to make several versions (in the video at one point I am cutting the letters: you need to cut them before making the copy). Anything that has a reduced opacity inside the group will be knocked out if there is a knockout group. But in order for it to be a knockout group, you have to make this a checkmark.

It's also in the Properties panel when nothing is selected as well as in the Transform panel. There you can record an action to turn it on and another action to turn it off. And you can assign shortcuts to those actions.
