PNG Problems: Illustrator 2018

After installing Illustrator 2018 yesterday, I can no longer export a vector file as a high resolution PNG file! And any attempt to increase the PPI in the dialog Export box has no effect on the final product, no matter how high a number I enter into the box. What happened here? I tried a TIFF export, and that looks good. It only seems to happen when I try to export my vector art as a PNG (transparent background). Any suggestions? Or is this a glitch?

I have the Illustrator version 23.0.2, restored the preferences and I have the same quality problem in the export, in addition to installing the script recommended and does not work, what can I do?

I'm on 22.0.0, And just updated to High Sierra. There is no option for me to update App to higher number???

Still having the same issue - PNG is blurry when importing into Word...

OK....SORTED! I asunder the impression I needed High Sierra to access 22.01 as there was no option to update in my Creative Cloud settings....WRONG!!!! (Not touching H/Sierra for a few months yet by the way...)

This morning I have UNINSTALLED Illustrator 22.0... and then REINSTALLED it.

Only took a few minutes.

Guess what? I now have version 22.01!!!

Hi there,

I am not seeing the latest Illustrator update on my apps list. Do I need to be running High Sierra in order to get 22.0.1? I've done 'check for latest updates' and it says everything is updated (all Adobe programs are closed).

Yep. In order to install 22.0 you need High Sierra

Hi Michelle,

Do you mean you are not able to export PNGs in any other resolution than 72 PPI? If yes, would you mind double checking if the Illustrator version you are using is 22.0.1?

I have 22.0.1 but I have to make the ppi 600 to get the edges to be crisp in Powerpoint.

Whoa, weird! Thank you for doing that, however. It's weird that it increases the size, since I started out with a document at 300DPI, 7000x7000px.

Wouldn't opening it up in Photoshop as 72dpi ruin the resolution when changed to 300dpi?

Illustrator files do not have a resolution. The ppi for a document you see is for Raster effects and does not influence vectors.

Illustrator gives a pixel the size of a point: 1/72 of an inch, 72 ppi per inch.

If you increase the resolution Illustrator increases the amount of pixels.

The resolution in Photoshop can be changed without changing the amount of pixels if you turn off resampling. The only thing that changes is the print size.

Why doesn't that make sense to you? Pixels are another form of measurement.

Inches = pixels ÷ DPI

Here's a screenshot from Society6:

Exporting for screens seemed to work, but it's silly to me that that works whereas "Export As..." doesn't and just gives me an "unknown error" :-/

I had a look at their specifications and a 7000 px file at 300 ppi looks enough.

7000 x 7000 px exported from Illustrator at 300 ppi will increase the number of pixels dramatically (29169 px), when opened in Photoshop it becomes uncompressed 2,38 Gigabyte. Way too much for their products.

1680 X 1680 px at 300 ppi will give you a 7000 px file at 300 ppi

When opened in Photoshop it will be a 140,2 Megabyte file. Should be enough for most of the objects they sell.

But you can also export the 7000 x 7000 px at 72 ppi and change the resolution in Photoshop in the Image Size window with Resample off will give you the same result.

Society6 aske for a file of, at least, 6500 starting at 72DPI.

Since we all know 72 is for screens and 300 is for printing ...
