hello , i have this really simple picture with only 2 colors (black and white) so its not complicated at all to work with , I want to swap the black with a gold color , now I have watched a few tutorials how, it says you need to go to edit , edit colors , then recolor artwork, but here is the problem, the recolor artwork can't be selected for some reason, yesterday it could, but it randomly stopped, I didn't even do anything in settings

Black and white are special. The options need to be set up. The button is tiny:

The artwork is a vector graphic?

And you have selected it?

Can you please show a screenshot that includes the selected artwork and the layers panel?
