Slow Performance after Illustrator 2020 update on macOS

Has anyone experienced program performance issues? Since I made the update to the latest version I have been having performance problems. The program is too slow and I have a good team, yet simple slow processes are done in light files such as scaling a text or a simple vector.

Correct answer tahickson

Have you made sure that "dictation" is turned off if you're on a mac? This solved all of my problems.

Hi there,

We're so sorry to hear that you are having trouble. We're currently investigating this issue. In addition the details asked by Ashutosh, please share:

  • Is the issue related to a specific workflow/ feature/ tool?
  • When did this start happening? Are there any recent changes made to your system? For example, any antivirus, system updates or web extensions installed recently.
  • What is file format (Ai/ EPS/ SVG)?
  • Graphic Card and RAM installed on your system?
  • Where the files are saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?

You can ignore if you have already shared any of these information.

Regards,

Srishti

Saving is extremely slow over here. A very simple file (few rectangles) saving on a local SSD takes 3 to 4 seconds on an iMac pro 64Gb...

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Would you mind sharing some more information like:

1. Version of OS.

2. Is it happening with just 1 file or all the files?

3. Are files saved locally or on a network?

All this information will help us understand issue better.

I'd also recommend you to reset the preferences of Illustrator once. You may try following the steps below:

For MAC

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to locations
  • ~/Library/Caches
  • ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • ~/Library/Preferences
  • Rename  Adobe Illustrator, com.adobe.illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings folders to   Adobe Illustrator.old, com.adobe.illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

For Windows

  • Close all Adobe applications.
  • Go to Location C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Adobe
  • Rename  Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings folders to Adobe Illustrator.old and Adobe Illustrator 24 Settings.old
  • Launch Illustrator from the Creative Cloud.

Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. This way all your old settings will be saved in .old folders and Illustrator will recreate new folders with default settings.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ashutosh
