Question

Toolbar in Illustrator keeps changing by itself

Why is this happening and how do you turn this off?

Can't get anything done because I'm continually looking for tools that

have magically moved all by themselves.

I contacted Adobe and we had to reinstall Illustrator and Photoshop in CC because for some reason my CC dashboard was broken. So, I have updated my Illustrator to 23.0.2 and will see if the Toolbar problem is resolved.

I have finally figured out how to fix the problem. Try this -- it worked for me: At the bottom of your toolbar is a three-dot icon, which represents "EDIT TOOLBAR." Click on that, and a window labeled ALL TOOLS will pop up. At the extreme upper right corner of this panel is a list icon (e.g., three stacked lines preceded by dots). Click on this and a menu will pop up; at the top is "RESET." Click on that and your toolbar will revert to its normal arrangement. I don't know if the tools will continue to jump around, but at least we know how to reset it. Let me know if this works for you.

This is a good solution thanks! at least with a few clicks you can get it back to where it was.

I hope it says this way now!

If this was part of some so-called "innovation" to Illustrator, I can only ask, what were they thinking? Like all of you, I now spend so much time searching for tools that keep jumping into different groups. Another small thing I've noticed is that for some idiotic reason Adobe has switched the symbols for "selection" and "direct selection." It used to be that "selection" was a solid arrow and "direct selection" was an outlined arrow. Now, after many years they have decided, apparently arbitrarily, to switch them. WHY? Extremely counterintuitive. I can't imagine who would have OK'd such idiotic changes that seriously cut down on productivity. ADOBE, ARE YOU LISTENING?

We're having the same issues here on 5 iMacs. I'm growing increasingly disappointed with the Illustrator team. After many years of using Illustrator since Illustrator '88 it's just getting more and more frustrating. Another issue i have is entering sizes in the transform box which keep changing to completely different random sizes after hitting the tab key. We don't seem to have any issues with InDesign or Photoshop.

It's just becoming so counter productive to us, we're seriously considering jumping on the Affinity bus.

This needs to be sorted so frustrating I pay good money for a product that is, in this day and age, so unprofessionall!

With due respect, that is not an answer, and they haven't comment on the situation since November 14. For those of us how make a living using Adobe tools, there is real urgency to fixing this problem. I appreciate your loyalty to Adobe. I have been an Adobe loyalist myself since 1987. This is a serious situation, and a response of "when we get to it" is unacceptable to me. I do appreciate you responses and dialog. I'll continue to monitor the situation on the other thread. All the best to you.

Yes, it is answered. Although not in a way you want.

They answered that they are working on it.

How has this question not been answered? This is a major bug in the update and Adobe is not addressing it?

It has been answered. Only somewhere else, because that's the place for bugs:New Customizable Toolbar need a way to Lock – Adobe Illustrator Feedback

I noticed this too and it literally drives me bonkers.

I am not sure why it would not load up the same way every time.

But I am sure they will fix this... so I would not worry too much.

Yes I'm having the same problem on my Mac Book, interestingly not having the issue on my desktop computer.

The tool positions keep changing, and random tool will either go into a submenu of another tool (so I have to left click to get it) or become a primary tool. It's driving me insane,

I am also having the issue on my Macbook alone. I think I reset my tools at least 10 times yesterday. SUPER ANNOYING.
