Unified Export Option for Multiple PNG Sizes with Custom DPI Settings
Unified Export Option for Multiple PNG Sizes with Custom DPI Settings
Description:
I propose an enhancement to Adobe Illustrator's export functionality to bridge a workflow inefficiency. The existing "Export for Screens" is tailored for screen graphics and understandably lacks DPI settings, whereas "Export As" permits DPI adjustments but doesn’t offer multiple sizes or a visual representation of the artboard like "Export for Screens." This feature should be a basic function within Illustrator, and its long overdue inclusion has been a point of concern with many individuals throughout the years.
Feature Request:
Introduce a unified export feature that marries the visual interface of "Export for Screens" with an added option to export for print, inclusive of customizable DPI settings.
Use Case:
Currently, to export a logo for various print sizes from a single vector source, designers are forced to create multiple size versions of the artwork—a counterintuitive step given vectors' size-independent nature. This proposed feature would allow specifying both size and DPI in a single export step, realigning the process with the inherent scalability advantage of vector graphics.
Benefits:
- Streamlined workflow for both digital and print applications.
- Reduced need for manual size adjustments and multiple artwork versions.
- A user-friendly interface akin to "Export for Screens" but enriched with print export options.
This enhancement would amplify Adobe Illustrator's versatility and user-friendliness, catering to a broader spectrum of design needs.
Related Discussion:
A & years old discussion titled Export for Screens - Only 72 dpi/ppi? mirrors the need for a feature allowing the resizing of the document to achieve desired DPI during export, highlighting a related concern among the Illustrator user community.
