What process/sequence should be used to get ‘raw’ (just downloaded from my camera) into the right size/resolution/ for general web and thumbnails.

What I have been trying:

  1. Crop the image (jpeg) (mine range from 2000 kb - 5000 kb)
  2. Scale the image to a width no wider than 1200 px for pc screens.
  3. Export the image at 1x and .7x-.8x webp format.  (The latter sizes for Thumbnails)

For people who do this on a regular basis, what process do you use?  (My AI defaults to 72 ppi)

    Adobe Illustrator isn’t really set up to process digital camera images, particularly Camera RAW files, or re-size the images to various sizes. Illustrator is primarily a vector-based graphics editing application. Photoshop in conjunction with the Camera RAW app or Adobe Lightroom will be far more productive at handling digital camera images.

    In any case,

    1. The right final total px x px size depends on the (most demanding) required quality.
    2. I thought it was 1920
    3. You may consider higher resolutions, such as powers of 2 times 72 PPI large, in other words 144/2x, 288/4x, 576/8x: the larger values can improve the appearance on high resolution screens and still ensure best possible appearance at low resolution screens, owing to controlled downsampling that gives exactly the same colour in each pixel at 1x as when created at 1x;

    Dilly Dally,

    If you continue here, you will need to make sure that the size as well as the corners of the image (and Artboard) are at whole points/pixel values
