Adobe Illustrator iPad Smart Guides only work in one axis at a time

Question

Using the latest version of the iPad app Adobe Illustrator. Smart guides won’t snap object into alignment in more that on axis at a time. I can’t put any shape perfectly into the corner of another shape. I can’t even allign four squares of equal size.
