AI on iPad, draw a straight line?

How? Any combination of using touch circle with pen or pencil, I can't get it to constrain to a straight line? What should I be doing?

Press and hold the inner ring of the touch circle. Draw you line with the pencil tool horizontally, vertically or at a 45° angle.
