Eraser tool in Illustrator iPad doesn't work as Desktop version

Friends,

I'm looking for help with the ipad illustrator tool.  It doesn't seem to work properly for me.  *See attached picture.  I assumed it would work like, well, an eraser.  I assumed it could be just like in Procreate or similar.  But I get extra bubbles and extrusions and odd things.  Also, is there a way to have the pencil or pen tool act as an eraser?  Meaning: you can add a line and then make it erase or become transparent?  I also searched for tutorials on this but didn't see any.  Thank you!

Yes, exactly.  That's why I wrote the question.  Any ideas on how to somehow get it to work like an actual eraser?

Not that I know of.
