Exporting ai files from ipad to PC

I have been drawing with Illustrator on my ipad and exporting the files to my pc for some final touches as some add-on images are only available in my pc. However, recently when i try to export the files and open them in my pc, all the layers are gone and pixel of the work has changed. It was like opening a photoshop file in Illustrator and I was not able to further edit the work as all the layers were combined. Is there a way to solve this issue so that I can transfer Ai files from Ipad to my PC? Thanks.

Correct answer Laura Coyle.

Could it be you exported as a non-vector format by mistake? Go to Publish and export, Quick export as Ai, and choose the method. Illustrator can also open PDF and SVG format. Also, if you are connected to Creative Cloud, you can open Cloud Documents created in Illustrator on the iPad. Click on the home icon in desktop Illustrator to see your Illustrator cloud (.aic) files there.
