Hexcode input UI is annoying me so much!

When I input hexcode for adobe illustrator on ipad, I have to do it really fast otherwise it automatically fillup the empty space with 0000. Then I have to backspace it and input the hexcode from the start. 

Why is this UI designed this way? Is it benefiting anyone?
