How to work with guides made from converted paths?

I have searched Youtube and Google without finding any answer to this.

I have discovered this function in the app letting you convert vector paths to guides.

I just don't understand what it's for?

Is it like some kind of "homemade" curved rulers?

Is it a kind of tracing tool?

Could you please help me with a link to a video or page that shows how and why?

Thank you very much!

I checked your link, but that's not for the Ipad?

From it I understand using straight guide lines - just like in Photoshop.

I was hoping I could turn a vector line into a guide similar to a french curved ruler.

No, sorry, guides don't work like a French curve ruler. They are only useful for creating reference points that you can use to snap other artwork to as you draw or move the artwork. They don't work like a stencil.

I will try to come back with some examples for you a little later.

Guides help you align text and graphic objects. You can create ruler guides (straight vertical or horizontal lines) and guide objects (vector objects that you convert to guides). Like the grid, guides do not print.

Thanks for tour reply, but I'm afraid I still don't get it.

Is there a webpage explaining how to work with this kind of guides?

I can convert a vector line to a turquise path, but no matter how many "snap to" settings I enable, drawing a new line to follow the guide, as if it was a ruler, doesn't work.

Neither do text on path. It only works before I convert the line to a guide.

Could you or someone else please try to explain it in very simple language and with many pictures? I feel like a real noob here!
