I cannot convert my TEXT to a path/outline

Hi, I have text in Illustrator on iPad. And I want to convert that text to a path, so I don't have worry about porting over the font to my desktop illustrator (for one thing). 

 

But, I selected the Text layer and if I go to "Combine Shapes > Convert to Path" that is greyed out. 

 

Or if I try Object > Make compound Path, selecting that that brings the message "Cannont Convert to Compound Path"

 

So how do I convert my text to a path/outline?

Select your type with the selection tool, click the type icon at the right edge of your screen (an outline 'T'), click Outline text.
