Moving objects to new layer in Illustrator on iPad

Hi there!

It seems like when I want to drag a path object to be on its own new layer in the layers panel, sometimes it works, but most of the time I will get an error message saying "can't move non layer object to the top". What exactly does this error mean?

I do seem to be able to create a new empty layer and drage my shape into it, but it is much more laborious. I also still haven't figured out why sometimes just simply dragging a shape between existing layers to make its own layer works fine, but when I try to do it again another time it gives me the error!

Hi Nikki,

Thanks for reaching out. This message is displayed when receiving layer is closed. The receiving layer has to be opened (expanded) for this to work.

Please try this workflow and let us know how it goes.
