Pen tool

Hi 

I am very new to illustrator and am using the new iPad version. I am tracing a drawing using the pen tool. However I can't seem to work out how to close or stop a line and then move to a different section without it creating a line between my last point and my new one. Does that make sense? How do I deselect or move away to work on a new area?

I have tried clicking out and then back into the pen tool but that reshows/highlights my previous lines to start from there again.
