Vectorizing a drawing without Live Trace

For a lasercutting project I need to vectorize a drawing I made. The problem is that I needed a drawing grid to accurately draw my image. Because of that Live tracing the scan is not possible or at the very least a hassle to work with as it will also vectorize the drawing grid. What would be the best way to vectorize the drawing on an iPad (or PC). I have an apple pencil(2nd gen) which might help...

EVen without the grid you wouldn't get any usable version out of this with Image Trace. So take whatever drawing tool is appropriate for the desired outome and then draw it. The pencil does some pretty awesome job, but so does the pen tool. As for the grid: get some paper with non-copying grid color (light blue)

Thanks, I'll give the pencil tool a go. Thanks also for the tip on non-copying grid paper.
