Assignments are not shown as Checked Out to other InCopy users

I need to figure out if this is a workflow issue or if InCopy/Adobe is messing this up for my team and me.

Workflow:

My team and I have a corporate Adobe account and work off of Adobe CC. I have a shared folder with them on CC that contains the files. I create an InDesign document and create InCopy assignments. My editors open the single .ICMA file in InCopy - two different editors, two different computers, two different adobe accounts.

However, when Editor A checks-out an assignment in InCopy, Editor B does not see this assignment as being checked out. I've watched on their screens and it never shows that an assignment is being worked on. It is only when Editor A checks the assignment back in that Editor B will then see an "out of date" notification.

This happens for both users - neither see each other's checked-out assignments at any point, and often they accidentally edit the same assignment at the same time, and cause lots of conflicting assignment files.

I used to work in publications with 10+ editors and never had this issue. The workflow seems correct to me, and I do not know what could be causing this "lag" in InCopy letting them know the assignment is checked out.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I have the same problem. We use the Creative Cloud storage and open just the .innd file. No one of us sees if a story is been edited by other users. All shows the aviable icon, despite we are actually editing.

Nothing's changed. Read the troubleshooting tips already given and try a different storage such as Dropbox or OneDrive.

Our team is having the same issue.
Assignments don't show/reflect that it is in use by someone.
Have you found the solution?

Thanks!

Stop using assignments. There's simply no need for a group this small.

Export all the stories from InDesign and have the users open the InDesign file using InCopy.

Thanks for a quick repsonse, but I don't think this will work for me - or I'm not understanding the solution.

The group being small doesn't really mean I don't need assigments - we're working on a magazine and has hundreds of text sections. If I'm undertanding how exporting the story without using assigments would work - each text block would be it's own .icml file that each editor opens one by one? And I don't see the layout of the magazine even in Layout mode when I open an .icml file - I don't find that reasonable.

Let me know if I'm not undertstanding correctly.

That's not correct. Please read it again.

They don't open the ICML files; they open the INDD file...the actual InDesign layout. I suggest you try it. It's simpler and you can eliminate steps that could be causing your issues.
