Question

4-color to 3-color setup

I sent letterhead to a print company and they responded with "It appears this letterhead is 3 color but the file is prepared as 4 color. Are you able provide a 3 color letterhead file?". What does this mean? What do I have to do? The file is already in RGB mode so I'm not sure what they're requesting.

All the color for a 3-color job would have to be setup as Spot Color separations—process RGB or CMYK would not output to the Spot plates:

Thank you for this. I made the changes and resent the file.

Did the print company request you provide an RGB mode file? Normally, they would expect it to be prepared CMYK for commercial printing. Is there a reason you prepared the file in RGB?

They said it would be a lot cheaper.
