72 dpi to 300 dpi in INDD export to high quality PDF

If I place super large images (that are technically 72 dpi but 5x larger than used – so they are shrunk down inside INDD), will they export as 300dpi using the Press Quality PDF setting? I'm trying to avoid opening several images into PS, just to resample them to 300 dpi (the only thing that changes is the dimensions).

If you place 72 ppi image, shrink it x5 times (100% > 20%), you'll get effective 360 ppi. You can check this in Info and/or Links panels.

That said, no need to do it in Photoshop. Indesign will take care during pdf export.
