A font suddenyl disappears...

Hello all,

I downloaded the Karmina font family from Adobe Fonts months ago. As far as I can tell, it installed just fine back then, although all of this is nowadays automated and the user doesn’t have much to do, which makes it difficult to make sure everything went well. Anyway, I began using the font in InDesign without any problem, and the font was also available in Photoshop, as well as in non-Adobe programs on my PC, such as Word.

Today, as I launch my book project in InDesign, I see an ominous “fonts missing” warning and all the instances where I used Karmina in my book have been changed. The font doesn’t appear in the listing any more, nor does it in Photoshop or Word. However, when I log into Adobe Fonts and look up Karmina, the option the site suggests is to “Delete” it, which seems to indicate that I still/already have it…

Puzzled (that’s an understatement), I did delete the font family in Adobe Font, then downloaded it again, with no discernible change. Karmina still isn’t listed in any of my software.

Any tips or suggestions to get it back will be, as you can imagine, extremely welcome, as I have no clue what happened…!

Many thanks in advance.

Dominique

If Leo’s suggestion doesn’t fix it, your font cache may be corrupt. Not sure what OS you are on. If on Mac OS, google how to boot into “safe” mode. Then reboot into regular mode. Booting into safe mode will clear your font cache.

    Hi @Dominique_R2,

I'm sorry to hear that the Karmina font family has suddenly disappeared. In addition to the suggestions already shared by our Community Experts, could you please try the following?

    1. Open Creative Cloud Desktop > Fonts > Added fonts and locate Karmina. If the Install family option is available, select it, then restart InDesign and check whether the font appears.

    2. Go to Creative Cloud Desktop > Preferences > Services and try turning Adobe Fonts off and back on, if the option is available.

    3. If the issue persists, sign out of Creative Cloud Desktop, restart your computer, and sign back in to check whether Karmina becomes available.

You can also refer to this Adobe Help troubleshooting guide.

Additionally, could you confirm your OS version, InDesign version, and whether other Adobe Fonts are working normally? Please also let us know if Karmina appears as installed in Creative Cloud Desktop or shows any error.

Looking forward to your update so we can assist you further.
    Abhishek

Thank you very much for your help. As explained below, just rebooting the PC did the trick.

Many thanks to all of you! Indeed the font cache must have been corrupted somehow, because a simple reboot of the PC (Windows 10, fully updated, for what it’s worth!) solved the problem. Upon re-launch, InDesign (version 21.6 x64, I don’t think there is a more recent one) found my Karmina fonts perfectly and displayed them like before, as if nothing had happened… Phew!

Try to log out from the Creative Cloud app, then log back in. Will it help?
