Problem solved! It was just as you said. I saved the file from Excel in UTF-16 format instead of tab-delimited, which is what I used to do before the latest update. By saving it this way, I imported it using Data Merge in InDesign, and it recognized all the text perfectly, including symbols, accents, etc. Thank all  for the help

Thanks for the additional details, and sorry you're running into this after the update.

I tested the workflow in the latest InDesign 21.5.1 using multiple file formats/encodings, but I wasn't able to reproduce the character corruption on my end.

Could you please share a small sample data file that consistently shows the issue? It would also be very helpful if you could share a short screen recording showing the complete workflow, from importing/selecting the data source through to the characters becoming corrupted. This will help us make sure we're following the exact same steps and aren't missing anything specific to your workflow.

Does the font applied on the text support these symbols? Also, check the encoding of the data file
