adjustments in type don't show or do so late

Dear all,

I have a very weird problem with Indesign, making it very hard to work. If I change a text from one font to another, it does not show the change. Only after I activated another item, the earlier change appears. If I change the font size it can't generate a preview properly. (see attachement)

In After Effects or Photoshop, this would be the moment to apply 'purge' i guess.

This problem arised with indesign 17.4 on my Mac Studio with Montery on it. The mac is a few months old, memory is 32 Gb. This problem should not occur on a machine like this I would have said - but yet, there it is.

Are there more with this problem? Is it fixable?

this worked! I had to do it a few times, because somehow timing is everything with this trick. But it worked. Lost my saved formats as well unfortunately, but i can make them again.

this worked! I had to do it a few times, because somehow timing is everything with this trick. But it worked. Lost my saved formats as well unfortunately, but i can make them again.

Thanks! This also worked for my problem:

When I manually typed a font name into the character palette, afterwards, I couldn’t choose another font style (e.g. bold or italics). It only worked correctly when I choose the font in the pop-up menu. Strange bug. I have the impression InDesign 2023 has many small bugs incorporated.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Please try the suggestions shared above, and in case it is still happening, please confirm if it's happening on a specific file or multiple files. A small video of the issue will be really helpful.

Hi Rishabh! Thank you for your concern. The problem happens in all documents. This kind of problems used to happen when I had weaker computers and too many fonts active. But now I have the newest computer, the latest indesing, lots of RAM.... But I'll try the safe-boot Aniri proposed. Will get back on this when I know. thank you once more.

Have you tried using Paragraph (and Character) Styles for applying fonts to text?

Hey Derek! Yes i did. But before you make any character or Paragraph stykes, you need to try a few things before you save them, right? So when you are happy with your paragraph and want to use that style on other blocks, you'd use that option. But the problem occurs already when I just try any other font...

Hast du in den Indesign Einstllungen die GPU Option aktiv? Diese mal deaktivieren und schauen ob das Problem gelöst ist oder nicht...

Ansonsten das übliche probieren:

- unter einem neuen Benutzer testen

- Safe-boot machen

- Cache leeren

- als letztes eventuell ID neu installieren...

Hey Aniri! Thank you for your answer. Yes the GPU is active, my ID is uo to date. I seem to have forgotten how to empty the Cach for ID though... Is there a button i missed?
