Adobe Fonts Showing as Unauthorized in InDesign Preflight

Hello,

I noticed, during a preflight check of a formatted book, that all my fonts—loaded via Adobe Fonts—were flagged as unauthorized.

I contacted Adobe, but so far without any result. All of their suggested “procedures” have failed.

Have you encountered this issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

Thank you for your help.
Have a great day,
Anne

    Bonjour Anne,

You would likely look in here:

Preflight Profiles looking at the Text > Fonts section.

I wonder if the Adobe engineers have made sure this Preflight panel is keeping up with the evolution of typeface font types? It seems odd that it would still list Bitmap and ATC fonts.

    Merci

why are all Google Fonts for the fonts allowed?

All fonts have end user licenses—the Google Fonts license is less restrictive, it allows the fonts to be shared.

lorsque j’utilise une google font, il n’y aucune police “non autorisée” :)

Hi @Anne Guervel , Preflight has the Font Types Not Allowed > Protected fonts rule—is that the setting you are referring to?

Adobe Fonts get activated, so they can’t be legally copied and shared, but any user/printer with an Adobe subscription would have access to activate any Adobe Font.

    Hi @Anne Guervel,

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry that you’re running into this. Agreeing with the expert that seeing the exact Preflight message will help narrow this down, so whenever you can, please share a screenshot of the error along with your Adobe InDesign version and OS details.

In the meantime, you can try opening your Preflight profile settings and disabling the option that flags protected or non embeddable fonts, then update the profile and run Preflight again.

I also came across a similar discussion where a similar behavior was resolved by adjusting the Preflight profile settings, so it’s worth checking if your error matches that scenario. Ref:

Let me know how it goes after trying this or once you’re able to share the screenshot, and I’ll be happy to take a closer look.

Can you please elaborate: what error exactly do you see in the preflight results? Any screenshots would be helpful.
