Adobe fonts work in illustrator but not in indesign

Hi,

Hope this is the right place to post and I have tried to find similar thread - but they're all a little different.

I cant get an Adobe Font family to load in Indesign. Ive restarted eveything, relogged into CreativeC loud. Its working in Illustrator but not Indesign. Its really frsutrating. Im not trying to load my own fonts but trying to use one of yours. I dont get it. I dont necessarily think its a software/upgrade based issue. This has happened in the past. Its why i prefer to set up douments in Illustrator. I dont have any fonts of the same name loaded so there shouldnt be any conflicts.

MAC: iMac 2017

OS: Mac Sequoia 15.6.1

Indesign: 20.5

Thank you for your time!

Font (in this instance): Akzidenz-Grotesk Next

Hi @meegee,

I hope the suggestions shared by experts helped get things working more smoothly. Could you confirm if you are still facing the issue or if it was resolved after trying their steps? It would also help if you could share the details they asked for, like whether there might be duplicate fonts in your Document Fonts folder or if clearing the font cache made a difference. Additionally, please also let me know if the problem is only in InDesign or if you notice the same behavior in other Creative Cloud apps as well.

Looking forward to your update.

Abhishek

Hi Abhishek,

I havent tried opening my indesign file again, but I did open Illustrator the next day and the font didnt appear either. The only thing I did was go back online to fonts.adobe.com was "Removed them" and then re-"Added" them again. That seemed to work, and I didnt have to restart my mac or quit Illustrator.

I will try tomorrow, for your purposes, to open Indesign and see if I get the same issues.

Will let u know.

Thanks for your time.

What file type are your fonts?

EDIT - It finally appeared in Indesign! I still dont think that its acceptable. It took me close to 45min of d**king around to get it to magically appear. And its not the first time this has happened. And Im also clueless as to why or how it just decided to work. Some insight would be much appreciated on this. Thank you.

It's hard to guess without more details, to be honest.

Assuming that you don't have a Document Fonts folder full of duped fonts in the same folder as your INDD, it is most likely a font cache issue. I usually find that logging out of Creative Cloud, maybe restarting my desktop, and then logging back in to Creative Cloud will resolve it. Sometimes that won't work, and I have to go clean my font cache by hand. Here are some instructions on cache-clearing from Adobe, but I'm told by Mac-using friends that the OS X utility Onyx is the easy way to clean font caches.

(That's not guaranteed to keep your fonts from disappearing, but I feel like it's the first thing to try. )
