Adobe InDesign 21.2 Crashes When Placing Image from CC Libraries

Adobe InDesign crashes every time I try to place an test (unlicensed preview) image into a frame from my Creative Cloud libraries. Licensed images work fine (but I can’t license every image I think I might use), images saved to my computer seem to work, and dragging and dropping mostly works ok (but I don’t want to have to resize the frame and redo the effects every time I add a new image). It’s specifically preview images from my Adobe CC libraries.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud, restarting my computer, and clearing preferences multiple times.

I am using a Dell Precision 3260 desktop with Windows 11 Business version 23H2. The InDesign version is 21.2 and was just updated today. (The issue persisted before and after updating.)

Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Try the CC Cleaner Tool - uninstall and reinstall rarely fixes anything as it leaves behind key files that are not removed that hold information

Another thing to try is to log out of everything

    InDesign go to Help>Log Out

Creative Cloud Desktop > Log Out

Go to the Creative Cloud Website > Log out from there too

    then reboot

    log back in everywhere

    see if it works

Tried both of these issues and the issue persists, alas. Thank you for the suggestions, though.

    Hi @Sarah Pennington

Thanks for the details and for trying the earlier suggestions. I tested this on my end with InDesign 21.2 and wasn’t able to reproduce the crash when placing unlicensed preview images from CC Libraries.

Could you please confirm whether you see the Adobe Crash Reporter when InDesign crashes? If it does appear, please submit the crash report and share the email address (via DM) you used so I can check the logs on our side. You can follow the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

In the meantime, please try this as well. Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from the Adobe application support location on your system(/Library/Application Support/Adobe), then relaunch InDesign and test again. If the issue persists, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from the Adobe application support locations(~/Library/Application Support/Adobe and  /Library/Application Support/Adobe) on your system and test once more.

    Looking forward to your update.
