Adobe InDesign CC 2017 Has Stopped Working

Hello,

I have searched the forums and found a few references to this issue, but none of the suggested solutions are working for me.  When attempting to start InDesign, I am getting the following error message: "Adobe InDesign CC 2017 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program."

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling (both InDesign and all CC programs, including Creative Cloud); clearing preferences/cache; signing in and out of Creative Cloud; restarting my computer multiple times; and installing older versions of InDesign..  Nothing seems to be working.  My other CC programs (Lightroom, Illustrator) are still working fine.

The problem first started happening when I was exporting a file to a PDF from InDesign.  The background task got stuck and required me to force shutdown the program.

I am running Windows 8.1, Intel Core i5-6300u CPU @ 2.40 GHz on an HP Spectre laptop.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried Unticking GPU performance under the GPU Performance tab in Preferences?

Did you uninstall InDesign from the  drop-down menu in Creative Cloud app (see screen shot below) and then run Adobe Cleaner before reinstalling InDesign Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems ?

Hi, I have not tried the GPU Performance option, as I can't get InDesign to load at all -- I am getting the error message almost instantly when trying to open a file, or open the program from start menu.

I have indeed tried uninstalling InDesign through Creative Cloud using the method you've shown, and I have also uninstalled all Creative Cloud programs and then run the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.  The tool was 'successful' according to the log, and I then reinstalled the various programs I need -- everything worked except for InDesign.  (The Creative Cloud app has been buggy, and sometimes won't launch correctly, but I've always had this problem with that app!)

Try this method to trash the preferences to see if you can open Indesign long enough to turn off GPU Performance:

Close InDesign. Then hold down Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift (Mac), and relaunch InDesign. Respond in the affirmative to the dialog asking if you really want to replace the preferences.
