Question

Aggravating ID 2026 to Acrobat

I am TRYING to create an editable PDF business card template (png attached) for users with Reader. And as seen elsewhere I cannot install Reader with Pro installed. After I can get one to work, I need to create a sheet of 10 business cards where entering the text into one card enters them in all the cards. I have assigned text fields to all text that should be editable.

Multiple issues when trying to export  a pdf in various formats:

1. When trying to make an interactive PDF, the text in the ID text fields disappears in the pdf

2. Individual text fields become merged upon export in a regular PDF

Is there a SIMPLE way to accomplish this? If only Acrobat was as intuitive as ID. I am a simple graphic designer and not a programmer. I can follow detailed instructions. Trying to do this so reminds me of Macromedia Director and Articulate 360. You follow step-by-step and it still doesn't work! 😞

Thanks

Although you can enter a value in the text field in Indesign, this is not a default value, and is removed when you export. In Acrobat, you can set a default value by selecting Properties (of the field) > Options > Default Value [enter whatever you want as default].

If the text fields are named the same, the value entered in one field will be repeated in all.

Note in Indesign, duplicating a field will not retain the field name. You will need to change the name of each, and keep consistent.

Not sure about your comment regarding text fields becoming merged?

I agree. It would be easier to get the layout in InDesign and make the form in Acrobat with all of the same text fields having the same name. I would make one set then copy and paste them all together onto the other laid up cards.
