All menus are clear in both ID and IL

Question

I worked on files all day yesterday but today when I tried to use ID and IL both do not show menus, any menus, they are just clear like attached. I can quit both apps with Command-Q but nothing else. PS and Acrobat are just fine.

I did the nuclear option buy uninstalling with Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool and deleting anything that said "Adobe" on my drive, then reinstalled everything. Same thing. I am using CS 2021 but in the hopes that a update would help, I installed ID 2022. Still nothing.

I am utterly flumoxed, plese help!

When this initially happened, I finally had to restore to an earlier backup from Time Machine and then everything worked again. I had already done all the suggestions noted above before that (except for turning off GPU acceleration.)

BUT, this Sunday, after working with InDesign all week, I noticed it was doing it again. It was working perfectly on Friday and I had done no updating or installing at all.

What I had done was tweaked some of my monitor's color profiles in System Preferences>Display>Color Profile. I didn’t put two and two together until later that evening when I thought perhaps I should switch back to the original sRGB profile and, voila, the menus came back!

There is no way I would have ever connected these two things. What on earth does one have with the other? I tested it again and sure enough menus went away, then came back when switching profiles.

I hope this helps someone who may encounter this extraordinarily bizarre behavior.

If deleting preferences doesn't work then try deleting your InDesign cache files. This process will usually work to repeir misisng elements from the interface.

To delete cache files:

For Macintosh Users: The User Library folder in which InDesign’s cache files are stored is hidden by default on most Macintoshes. To access it make sure that InDesign is closed and click on the desktop to launch a Finder Window (Command-N). With this window in column view follow the path User>Home folder (it’s the folder with an icon that looks like a house—it may have the user’s name rather than “Home”) and click on the Home folder. With the Option Key pressed choose Library from the Finder Go Menu. “Library” will now appear within the Home folder. Within the Library folder find the “Caches” folder. Within the Caches folder find and delete the entire folder “Adobe InDesign”. I find that deleting the InDesign cache folder completely leads to a lasting change.

For Windows Users: On Windows 7 and above the caches files are hidden. To find them go to the Control Panel and open Folder Options and then click the View tab. Then select “Show hidden files and folders” or “Show hidden files, folders or drive options” in Advanced Settings. Then delete (or rename) the folder at the end of this path: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version [#]\<Language>\Cache.
