All the options in Layers panel are grayed out on InDesign 2015 on Mac.

i went to go move some stuff around on my document via the layers pallet and I noticed there where no layers appearing. I went to try an add a layer, and all the option are grayed/not selectable. It is the same if I try a new document no layers, and can’t add. This has got to be a setting/pref I’m just not sure on what to do?

    Hi Jonny:

Is this in one single file, or for all new files? All files should at least show the default Layer1, unless someone has modified the name and/or added additional layers.

If it is all files, you can rebuild your preferences by following the instructions in this post:

    https://www.rockymountaintraining.com/adobe-indesign-rebuilding-preferences-cache/

If it is in a single file, see:

Sounds like corrupt preferences, but before we go any further, what version of InDesign and what operating system?

    Hi Jonny,

Thanks for sharing these details. As mentioned by Bob, if all the options in layer panels are grayed out then it is most likely that preferences are corrupt and we need reset them back to defaults.

To reset preferences for InDesign, please try the steps shared here: Set preferences in Adobe InDesign.https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.

    Regards,
