Most fo the time I use Alt (Option) + drag to copy an object in InDesign, it makes Indesign crash. This has been happenign for months since I updated to Indesign 2025. It's so frustrating because I a so used to use that keyboard shortcaut to copy objects. Anyone have an idea of why this is happening?

Hi @valeria_4898,

Thanks for the details and for submitting crash reports. I checked our crash-reporting system but could not find a report tied to your community email. Are you using a different email address for the Crash Reporter submissions? If so, please DM me that address, and I will look up the logs.

Also, please follow the expert advice and update InDesign to the latest build, which is 20.5, and then test whether Alt/Option + drag still causes a crash.

Let me know how it goes.

Abhishek

Hi @valeria_4898,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. Could you please confirm which exact version of InDesign 2025 you're using, like 20.5 or any other, along with your OS details? Also, let me know if this crash happens with a particular file or across all files.

If you see the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog when InDesign crashes, please submit the report and share your email address via DM, so I can check the logs for you. Ref: https://adobe.ly/4o3kSEW

In the meantime, please try the suggestions shared by the expert and also review the steps in this article to rule out any related crash causes: https://adobe.ly/4q21KZJ

Looking forward to your update.

Hi, I am on MacOS Sonoma Version 14.3.1. I have a MacBook Pro from 2019 and I am wokring on Indesign v20.1.
This happens on all file and is the only thing that makes the software crash. I have submitted many reports via the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog.

Do I need to try resetting InDesign as previously advised?

First, update Sonoma to its latest version. Will it make a difference?

Hi Valeria,

On Windows, it can be related to overly full Temp folders. Empty both of them (search for %Temp%) and restart, and see if the crashing still persists.

Otherwise, InDesign commonly needs to have a reset/restart. There is a button for that in Preferences > General. Or read much more about resetting InDesign in this compendium.
