Alt text for CC Library images

I'm doing a city parks brochure in InDesign. It contains icons that represent restrooms, playgrounds, etc.

I have the icons in a CC Library. Each icon may be used multiple times in the brochure

Is there a way to attach alt-text to the library images and have it carry through to the InD document?

This will eventually be converted to an ADA-accessible PDF, and it would be tedious if I have to go into Acrobat and add alt-text to EVERY icon at every park.

  1. Open Adobe Bridge.
  2. Navigate to your icon graphics.
  3. Open the Metadata panel in Bridge.
  4. Fill in the appropriate Alt-Text in either the Description field.
(Note, XMP metadata does not have an exclusive field for Alt-text, but it sure needs it! Post that as a feature request in the User Voice forum.)
  5. Switch to InDesign.
  6. Open the Object Export Options panel.
  7. In the first tab, select the Metadata / Description field from the drop-down choices.
  8. Give the system a couple of seconds for it to "take," and voila! your metadata will be imported into the INDD layout.

First add the required Metadata, second create an Object Style in which you set which Metadata to use in Alt Text. Third apply the Object Style to the images.
