Question

Anchored text box ignores text wrap. (my quest to maintain spacing in anchored text boxes)

Hi there! I've got some great help from this community already. Trying to figure out an issue still. I've got a doc with notes on the outside of the pages that are pointing to different parts in the body text. There's a line separating them and I'm trying to have 0.125" spacing between a vertical separation line and the text box.

I already got help with getting the notes and the arrows to flip to the right side of the next page if text gets added or taken away, but I can't figure out how to maintain that spacing in regards to the vertical line. I've tried applying a text wrap to the line, but once I anchor the text box, it ignores the text wrap entirely.

Any advice?

Other things I've tried:

  • Inset spacing: If I put 0.125" spacing from the right, then when the note hops to the right page, the text goes right up to the line (since I'd now want spacing from the left.)
  • Thinner text box: If I make the text box smaller by 0.125", when the note flips to the right page, the arrow is 0.125" away from the line (instead of touching it)

I think maybe a better way to describe what I'm wishing I could do would be to treat a text box like the margins on a "facing pages" document. Where I could just set the "inside" value to something specific, rather than having to choose left or right.

I thought I was understanding what it is you're tring to do until I read your second post. Now I have no idea what you're trying to describe.

Sorry about that. If I can figure out the text wrapping thing, my reply is meaningless. Didn't mean to muddy the waters.
