Question

Apply multiple spot colors to specific objects with data merge

I am working on a design where a client wants a spot color chart. There are 2000 individual objects where each object needs to be a specific pantone color. On top of the object will be the pantone color. Is there a way to run a data merge of the spot color number to also apply the spot color to the object? Is there a way to apply a different spot color to each object automatically without selecting the object and selecting the spot color? Just looking to simplify the the process as selecting 2000 objects and spot colors will take forever.

I have a technique that I've written up on InDesignSecrets that might assist: https://indesignsecrets.com/changing-colors-during-a-data-merge.php

If the answer wasn't in my post, perhaps it might be on my blog at colecandoo!

    Hi blardy ,

how many spot colors in total on one page?

I think there is a restriction of the number of spot colors that can be exported to PDF.

Maybe even a restriction of the number of spot colors that can be shown with Acrobat's Print Production > Output Preview.

    Regards,
