Question

Automaically fitting the pdf when I stretch a aone

Hi,

Please note I added a sketch of the situation attached.

I work on a single page document (1) where I have a spreadsheet (3) and a pdf (2) I placed on top (technical drawings and info) related to the spreadsheet.

Unfortunately, I was asked to expand the pdf because people couldn't read it and when I expand, I have to manually "stretch" the pdf placed to fit this new dimension.

I want the pdf automatically stretched to its new size and also centered on the same data.

When I do it now, I got to manually stretch the zone and the pdf according to the zone.

Many thanks.

PS: Please note I tried to crop the useless data of the pdf but it's not permanently cropped, I already asked how to do it in another thread. This would be useful.

Because your frame-crop of the PDF must be done "by eye," I'm afraid you won't find a more automatic way to do this, but there's one thing here that confuses me a bit.

When I do it now, I got to manually stretch the zone and the pdf according to the zone.

That reads like you are doing 2 steps to get the desired scaling and crop. (And, I understand why that would be frustrating.) Maybe this is what you're missing:

When you "manually stretch the zone," hold down the Ctrl/Cmd key (along with the Shift key to constrain the aspect ratio). This will also stretch the PDF at the same time and keep your copped area aligned...in one step.

Aside from that, there's this:

PS: Please note I tried to crop the useless data of the pdf

That could (would have to) be done in Acrobat, prior to importing the PDF.

You could crop the PDF in InDesign by drawing a frame the size and shape of the desired area, then cut the PDF, select the frame, and Paste Into.

If you group the PDF frame with the one containing the spread sheet you can select the group and scale it as a single object.

It's a solutrion I tried but I can't cut properly the original pdf. Every time I open with Adobe, the PDF is cropped but each time I place it in the designated area, the pdf if full again like I didn't crop the pdf
