Automate same page different logo/image (200+)

Hi guys,

I've found a few questions about this but not quite similar to mine.

I need to create a custom folder for 200+ businesses. So the folder/page would be the same, except for the logo which should be personalized (same placement + size though). The 200+ logo's are already collected and saved in a folder. What I'm looking for to achieve;

* Design 1 page in indesign, set the size/placement for the logo/image;

* Import 200+ logo's to create 200+ separate pages in 1 Indesign document, all with the same size/placement but with different logo;

* So I can export it as 1 PDF file and print it all at once.

Is there a way to achieve this?

You can do this with InDesign's built-in data-merge feature (which allows merging graphics), no need for a script. The only downside to a data merge I can think of is that you would need to created an Excel file with 200 rows that includes the path name to each separate logo...

But I think creating an Excel file with a different name 200+ times would cost the same time as manually replace the logo 200+ times . Unless I would have named the logo's 1, 2, 3.. then I could automate this probably in Excel by duplicate it 200+ times and then search/replace?

The thing is the logo's all have the name of the company their from. That's why I hope there is a way (wishful thinking).

If the only difference on each page is the logo, you could copy the folder with the logos, rename them all (Windows lets you do this easily -- select them all and right-click rename), and then build a simple Excel file for the datamerge.

A script is also a possibility for sure.

But even doing it manually is fairly simple: Set up a master page in InDesign for the template. Create a placeholder for the logo. Set the fitting options as needed. Add 200 pages to the document based on this master page. Then Place, select all the logos, and your placegun should be loaded with all 200. Now it's just a question of clicking once on each page for the logo. If you've set up the placeholder frame correctly on the master page, when you click on it on a regular page the logo will fit inside it perfectly, and you can go on to the next page.

So if this is a once-off, it can be done in 5 minutes max, even manually!
