Question

Automatically matching pages of linked file to document.

Hello!

Wondering if this is even possible. In my work flow I usually have a print file in Indesign using multiple layers and artboards. I link these files to my "Proof Page" and use object layer options and pages to display different parts of the art. In the Proof Page I can have multiple instances of the art at a time showing various combinations of the layers. I was wondering if it's possible to have a script go through the Proof Page and automatically match the pages of the linked document to the corresponding pages of the proof page. So Page 3 of the proof would automatically update every instance of the linked file to Page 3. Bonus points if it can maintain my layer selections, but beggars can't be choosers Haha.

Thanks again!

Matt

Hi @Little_Matty it might be worth setting up a demo .indd as a clear example to show your setup (just use mock content, eg. text that says "Layer 3", etc) and that somehow shows before and after the operation of the hypothetical script. You are using terms loosely and I think people may have difficulty understanding your exact situation and requirements. I may be wrong—maybe it's just me—but supplying a demo .indd is often a quick way to get the message across without mistakes.

Hi @m1b ,

Of course, here is a dummy file setup showing a rough example of what I'm talking about. I'm not quite sure how to show a before example but I'd be more than happy to explain in detail if needed. Let me know if this helps clear up any confusion. The script would be targeting the Proof file.

Best,

Matt

Hi @Little_Matty thanks for the files but they don't really help understand exactly what you're wanting.

Is this right ... you want to import your "File" document multiple times, but each with different layer visibility? But what does the script do? Please explain each action step-by-step, if you can.
