Best practices for converted Indesign to Powerpoint?

Anyone know the best practice to export a Indesign file into Powerpoint? I have tried multiple plug in converters and am still finding the best way is to export to PDF, then PDF to Powerpoint, along with researching any advice but still don't have a successful process.

However, sometimes files transfer smoothly and other times the formatting is extremely warped. Is there any tricks to help here? I know Powerpoint doesn't work well with transparencies, any ways to flatten the file or work around this?

For context, the end goal is to create a template that can be used in Powerpoint by a non-designer. Creating the file in Powerpoint is not an option.

Any help is appreciated.

I played around with settings and found a fairly easy way to get this to work

First export InDesign to PDF, then PDF to powerpoint.

when exporting from InDesign to PDF I made sure to have the option "Export All Layers" in InDesign and told it to convert to "Working RGB" (since Powerpoint can't work with CMYK)

Once this was a PDF, using Adobe Acrobat I exported it as a Powerpoint. When you do this check the export settings (Should be beside the powerpoint option) and unchecked both boxes.

Opened up the project in Powerpoint and all my tables and graphics created in InDesign were editable in powerpoint 🙂

Why is using Powerpoint to create a Powerpoint template not an option.

Hi Bob, thanks for your response. Great website by the way - a lot of useful knowledge.

To be honest, I struggle working in Powerpoint not because I do not know the software, but because it does not provide the control I look for - especially regarding layout and typography. I work with a lot of data tables and indexed content that I really take advantage of what InDesign has to offer. I also find the files differ from version to version.

My ultimate goal is to create a presentation that only certain elements of the page are editable for the client for ease of use. It seems Powerpoint may be the "solution", but I am happy for any ideas to help the process either way!

Thanks for your help, Steve. I downloaded a trial a while ago and was still experiencing some issues, but I think I'll circle back and give it another try. Appreciate it.
