Is it necessary to save the new version of the image we created in InDesign in Photoshop?

When you place an image, import it as a linked asser.
If you use transparency, use tiff, psd, pdf or pdp  as layered files, otherwise jpg are also fine.
if you use layered files save layer compositions in Photoshop, upon import in InDesign select the best layer composition for that import. So you can import the same image with different layer compositions. If you edit an image in Photoshop you do not get a mess as you would if you place a dumb file.
you can call an image from InDesign by double clicking with the Direct Selection tool on the image or with the command or button from the link panel. If the file associattion on the computer is correct, Photoshop will open the linked file and any change done in Photoshop will be actualizex in InDesign.

At the moment, with the latest version of InDesign, InDesign shuts down when I open a Photoshop file from InDesign. This is a serious bug and I will report it to Adobe in the next days. But atthe moment they are in their holidays, so I do not expect a repair in the short run on their side.

Please define "editing".

Your question does not have enough detail, but the short answer is no.

Your question might imply that you are changing the size of the graphics frame in InDesign. A graphic from Photoshop is placed into InDesign's graphic frame. This frame acts as a mask to the image, seemingly changing its cropped appearance.

Do you need a copy of the image *as cropped* in InDesign?

Hi @adiy428439,

Could you share the version of InDesign and the details of your operating system?

If you’re working with images in InDesign and making edits in Photoshop, it's not mandatory to save a new version of the image unless you need to keep the original untouched. Saving the edited image ensures the changes are permanent and can be linked back to InDesign correctly. Always ensure the updated file is saved in a compatible format (like PSD, TIFF, or JPEG) and relinked in InDesign if necessary.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

Thanks,
