Hi pipriley,

WARNING!

Do NOT REMOVE the blue brackets on the imported endnotes texts.

They are necessesary to identify the text for a given endnote marker in your main text.

If you remove the special characters you will remove the endnote marker in your main text.

They will not print nor be visible in PDF, don't worry 😉 They are just indicators for notes.

Do the blue brackets look like these in the Adobe Help page? They don't print.

Can you send a sample of indd file with this hidden symbols through some Dropbox/yadisk services? Then may be some of forum users can check you file and find what the thing is these brackets.

Remember, never say you can't do something in InDesign, it's always just a question of finding the right workaround to get the job done. © David Blatner

Go to the View menu > Structure and look for something like “hide tags” (I have a French version)

Analize your Word document again, I guess you must remove this elements from your original Word document...
