Book Panel is Hidden (Was "Upgrading from InDesign 6 to CC 2018")

I can't locate the Book palette in CC2018. Since I compose books, this is fairly crucial.

    Hi Emmy:

I think the links are helpful to make you aware of new features, but they won't troubleshoot this specific issue.

I work in books daily, and haven't experienced this, so let's continue to work through it together. After you open the .indb file the book panel should be visible. If you don't see it, the next step is to go to the Window menu and look at the very bottom of the menu. Is the book listed as open? What happens if you click on the book name in the Window menu? Was it hiding behind other open files?

If that doesn't show it, let me know if you are Mac or Windows and exactly which operating system you are using. If Mac, I have one more idea, otherwise we are on to resetting preferences.

Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

    Hi again, emmyezzell:

While working with books hasn't changed since CS6, a lot of other things have. You may find this link useful—InDesign CC new features | New modern and customizable UI—it briefly lists the major updates in versions 9–13, plus it links to the release notes for each version.

BarbBinder, thanks for responding. My puzzle is that when I open the indb

file, I can't see the Book palette anywhere. I can open the book files in

Finder, but that's hot the correct way to update and edit the book itself.

I'll try checking the links you suggest.

    Two options:

    1. File > New > Book to create a new book
    2. File > Open and double click an .indb file to open an existing book
