Similar problem placing PDF in InDesign CS6.

Error message:
"Either the file does not exist, you do not have permission, or the file may be in use by another application"

I know exactly none of above is the case as I made the copy of the file myself.

I tried to:

1. re-save PDF;

2. re-save as optimized PDF;

3. save reduce file size;

4. extract pages and save as new PDF files.

None of this helped with Acrobat X Pro on Windows 10.

PDF file is PDF/X-4 compliant, Adobe PDF Library 15.0, v.1.6, size: 30 MB, no security.

InDesign files is newly created and has .idlk file too.

    Solved!

    The file path was too long. I was able to place it after shortening the file and folder names.

    Thank you!

    Did you open the PDF with Acrobat or Acrobat Reader or a different PDF viewer before placing?
    And is that viewer still open? Then I would quit the app before proceeding.

    PDF file I am placing isn't opened in other app.

    However other PDF files can be placed regardless of opened in Acrobat or not.

    Did you try the "show options" suggestion I made?

    The thread you posted in had no real details and to be honest, I'm not 100% sure of what problem you're having. I've branched it to a new discussion.

    When exactly do you get this error?

    Does it only happen with PDF files?

    Is the PDF on a network drive? Local?

    Does it happen with other files or just this one?

    If it's only this file, be sure to enable "show options" when placing. The choices there are sticky and if the PDF you're placing does not comply with those choices (no bleed if you've chosen bleed previously, for instance) this might happen.

    Finally, CS6 is not supported under Windows 10 so, in effect, you are on your own here.

    1. When performing File > Place... in InDesign CS6. Error message appears after pushing the "Open" button.

    2. It happen with PDF files only.

    3. I tried to place both local and from networked drive.

    4. It happen with just this file and pages extracted from it?

    "Show Import Options" is checked. Other files are placing with no problem.
