Question

Button will not disappear when being told to do so - Indesign Interactive

Hello all,

The file that I'm currently working on is having a major issue. Here is how it's supposed to be set up. You click on a button hotspot and the pop up button comes up. You click on submit and the pop up button disappears as well as the submit button. If you hover over a button hotspot the pop up that is directly linked to it will show. When you move off of it that pop up will disappear. The problem that I'm having is that the submit button and some of the pop ups do not disappear when you click submit. I should also note that the button hotspot is set up to hide itself when being clicked on to prevent the user from having multiple pop ups showing up at once when editing a pop up. Another thing I should mention is that this contains word document buttons in the middle. I feel like I've been looking at this for too long and am just not seeing what's causing this issue. I've set this up multiple times before and have never came across this. I seem to remember that if you have things labeled a certain way in the title section of the button panel that it could break. Like having . / # for example somewhere in there.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Are you using Show/Hide button? Also, can you post an example from Publish Online where interactivity is not working? Thnx.

Hi Diane,

If I E-pub then links work o.k. with a tweak suggested by Derek, (no transparency, but rather reduce the tint.) this solves the problem if I e-pub however, I want to export as an interactive PDF, and that's where I have not been able to solve the issue.

This forum doesn't allow me to upload PDF's, there is no point in sending the e-pub that does work.

Below are screen shots of what the page is doing:

Page 1 is the file in original state, no buttons have been clocked: (The idea is that the solid colors would mark your location in the document, and from this page you could click the other groups, sub-groups and sub-sub groups.) In a "static" mode you would only see solid colors in the location that you are at, the rest of the options are ghosted out. If you hover over the other options, then they become solid color, and at click you are re-directed to the selected page.

Page 2 Shows the intent of what happens once you click on a button: (As you can see, I am having already problems with "Group E" its shown as if it's clicked even though the mouse was only over A1.2.

Last page shows what happens once I hover over with the mouse in a fast fashion, as you can see, there is a whole lot of mess with the buttons remaining as if they were clicked. Even when the mouse is away from the buttons.

The way to go with this, if you want these design values is in5:

Digital Magazines, Mobile Apps, Web Banner, Microsites, & more from InDesign with in5 - Home

Alternatively drop the buttons and use hyperlinks instead and stick with an Interactive PDF – at least everyone will be able to open and use the document on any device without having to download an app, and after they've downloaded the PDF of the document, they don't have to be online to read it (you'll recall the old aphorism: KISS – keep it simple stupid!).

Is your final output an Interactive PDF, if so it won't work on many devices. Use Publish Online, FXL ePub or in5 instead.

Hi Derek,

Thank you for your suggestions.

I proceeded with the different options, and encountered new challenges.

I noticed that in "publish online and ePub" the buttons do work much better, however the transparency is not respected. (The transparency I am talking about is that the button at normal state is 50% transparency at roll on is 100%, in the online pub, I only see the buttons at 100% so I don't see a difference in state when hovering over.) Any suggestions?

Transparency is not honored in rollover effects. For 50% transparency, if button is a flat color, make a 50% tint of that color.

I am having a similar issue. The button is supposed to highlight with the hover of the mouse, but if I hover too fast, the button remain "on" I am not sure if this is an In design issue or a configuration in Acrobat.

Buttons "Group A, A1, and A1.3" are supposed to be 100%, except when rolled over. The opposite is to the rest of the buttons, 50% in normal, 100% in rollover.

Tried to attached PDF, but was unsuccessful.

Hi,

you cannot attach a PDF to a forum post.

Provide a download link for the PDF uploaded to Dropbox or a similar service.

Regards,
Uwe
