Hello.

Is there a possibility to calculate the use of ink/how coverage of black in a text/layout file?

Working in Acrobat, Indesign, Illustrator or Photoshop

Best regards

[Your question mentions four applications, so I had to pick. Because some playfully consider PS and AI plug-ins for InDesign, I am moving it here.]

This is rethorical question and don't have exact answer

By the fact professional big inkjet printers as Canon ImageProGraf can show you used ml after printing.

Many people use it some statical practice formula about maximum ml by square metre or by page.

Somebody try to calculate Расчет расхода чернил струйной печати or this link - https://forum.rudtp.ru/resources/inkcost_calculator.111/

Or this soft - APFill - программа для расчета заполнения листа при печати, оценки расхода тонера и себестоимости при печати - AVPSOFT

I was ask such question long time ago about "laser"-printing - https://forum.rudtp.ru/threads/nuzhna-programma-rascheta-rasxoda-tonera-dlja-pdf.49860/ and don't have right answer.

Right answer is to use some "maximum" coverage in calculations for the customer. Ink is not the biggest part of cost of every print. You need to calculate a paper, a taxes, a salary of manager/designer/printer-man, depreciation use of hardware/software.

One can use GhostScript to calculate coverage, but not really density. One can use pdfToolbox to calculate both coverage of each ink and its density.
