Can't access Bold Font weights in InDesign, and Fonts not rendering to PDF

Hello! I am in Indesign 19.2 on Windows 10 and have 2 issues:

1. I can't seem to use the Bold font-weight on fonts I have installed - I installed Karla and Inter from Google Fonts today and can use every weight except Bold.

2. When exporting to PDF these fonts are not rendering correctly, and on the PDF are either spaced wierdly or are replaced by lines of what looks like morse code.

If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be super grateful!

Thanks

To add to @jmlevy 's response,  make sure you don't install BOTH the static and variable at the same time. One or the other.. Personally, I'd stick with the static ones unless you have a specific need for more variable options.

Thanks Brad, how do I uninstall variable fonts? Same way as I uninstall static?

Did you install the static font or the variable font? Sometimes, variable fonts don't work fine with InDesign. That said, I tried with both (variable and static) on my Mac and I have no problem to use the bold and to create a PDF using this font.

I don't find any font named Inter on Google fonts, so I can't test.
