Can't assign paragraph style to multiple text frames, can only assign it while using text tool.

Hi folks,

New to indesign here - some frustrating workflow things that I might not be understanding. I created a lot of linked shot numbers for a storboard template using an old font. I want to change the paragraph style number formatting (which contains a character style) of all of the text frames. I try to do this by selecting all of the text frames and changing "No styles" to my desired style.

As soon as I click off, it changes back to "No styles".

I can only change this by going into the text tool and changing all of the boxes individually.

Is there a reason I cannot mass assign a paragraph style to multiple text frames? It is quite tedious to do this 120 times. Thanks!

You can also do it by assigning an Object Style to your text frames — which has many cascading management advantages — and Paragraph Style is one of the parameters you can set and manage globally.

Always use object styles if you create multiples of some frame or other object you will want to manage other than by individual selection.

One more point. Single frames (not threaded) can be selected and text formatting assinged to the entire frame, but you cannot do the same for threaded frames.

Thanks all! I didn't know about object styles. Cheers.

Hi @Erik Patak , Rather than trying to select the text frames, insert your cursor in the first frame of the thread and choose Select All to select all of the threaded text, and apply your Paragraph Style:
