Can't drag frames (and some other items) in InDesign CC 2018

Ever since I updated to CC 2018, I will randomly be unable to perform specific dragging actions in InDesign. I can't drag content frames, only nudge them with the arrow keys. Additionally, some other items that require a dragging action are disabled. Reorganizing styles in the styles panels or TOC settings or attempting to apply a new master page by dragging does not work. However, I can rearrange the order of the panels themselves by dragging.

It doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the only fix is to reboot the machine. Quitting and reopening InDesign does not solve the problem. The problem occurs with both a mouse and a trackpad. The rest of the applications on my computer behave normally during this glitch, so I know it is InDesign-specific. It has happened across several documents, so there isn’t a document-specific issue.

I already installed the downloadable patch released shortly after 2018 came out, and have also completed the recent InDesign update (13.0.1). Neither of those fixed the glitch. I am on a Late 2013 MacBook Pro running 10.11.6 OS X El Capitan.

My work machine is a 2016 MacBook Pro running Sierra, and I don’t recall whether I have encountered the problem on this machine yet, or as often, if so, but if there is a fix without updating the OS, I would like to try that first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

    Hi Sarah:

If you followed the standard upgrade prompts, your old version of InDesign was removed and the old preferences were migrated to the new version. Those preferences seem to be causing a lot of issues for people.

Aman's advice should take care of this for you—and certainly tell us if it doesn't—but next time around, you do have the option of clicking on Advanced and unchecking Import Pevious Setting and Preferences. While you are at it, you can also decide not to remove the old version until you are sure the new one is working well on your system.

Update apps to the October 2017 release of Adobe Creative Cloud

Thanks, Barb! That's a good suggestion. I will be sure to do that next time.

    Hi,

Please clean InDesigns cache and preference.Troubleshooting 101: Replace, or "trash" your InDesign preferences

Thanks, Aman! I did as you instructed and hopefully that will do the trick.
