Can't Open InDesign Files After Update: 'Created in Newer Version' Error

Some days ago I made the recommended InDesign updats. Now the system dose not allow me to open files I created, saying they have been created in a newer version. I can convert them or update again, yet updates are not available anymore... seams the system loops me around.

Any suggestions how I can fix that? Thx 🙂

Hi @Patrick28421921vlu4 ,

I'm sorry that you're having trouble opening InDesign files after updating the app. Would you mind confirming if you have two versions of InDesign installed on your computer? If yes, please ensure that the file is getting opened on the v18.1, which is the latest one. If that doesn't work, please close all Adobe-related processes from the task manager and reboot the computer and check again.

Let us know if this helps or if you need any further assistance.

Thanks for posting this, had the same issue and sure enough found a rogue older copy installed for whatever reason.  Back to work.

My guess is that you installed InDesign 2023, saved files there and you're trying to open those in InDesign 2022.

Hi Bob,
That was the case - the update must have installed 2023 and I was able to create files with it. At a certain time 2022 took over while I was trying to open the files. That caused the problem. Removing 2022 solved it.
Thanks a lot and have a great day, Pat

Hi Sishabh,
Many thanks, that was actually the problem. Don't know how that happend but our IT Support had to remove an older version. Would the update install a complete new version? Don't think our IT guys installed two versions.
The problem is solved and I can work again - many thanks. Have a great day,
Pat
