Can't place image in InDesign

Hello,

I downloaded InDesign yesterday on my Mac and have set up my document. A few functionality problems came up that I've found work arounds for but the one "big" problem is that it won't let me place an image. I go to File and Place and nothing comes up. Nothing. Is there another way to bring an image in as I'm at a loss as how to continue with this project.

Thanks.

Thank you for the suggestions! A reboot of my computer seemed to solve many of the issues I was experiencing. Will revisit this thread should it begin to happen again.

Another thing to try when you choose File > Place and nothing happens is this:

  • Go to the Edit menu. If it says "Undo Replace", it means you had something selected and the new image went into another frame.
  • If it does say "Undo Replace" then click it. Whatever was in the frame will be restored and your cursor will be loaded with the new image.
  • To avoid this situation, deselect before choosing File > Place.

What format is the image in?

Which version of InDesign and OS?

Hi Kim,

Were you able to fix the issue by resetting the preferences as suggested above? Feel free to update the thread if you still need assistance.

Regards,

Om

Have you tried drag-and-dropping images from the Finder?

Have you tried restoring Preferences yet?

Set preferences in Adobe InDesign
